This famous string of navigatable channels and rivers was first discovered by a European in 1567 when Pedro Menendez was instructed by the king of Spain to explore a possible route across Florida. On a extended sail, St. Augustine Sailing Adventures can sail you along this waterway down to the famous Fort Matanzas and the impressive delta area, where you will be able to see the historic sites from the sea in the same way the old world sailors did. For those keen on learning a bit more of sailing, your Captain will also show you some of the navigating tricks necessary in the often unmarked channels and sandbar filled bays.

St. Augustine Sailing Adventures is actively involved in helping youth and teaching the world of sailing to them. Your captain has taught scores of children over the last decade and is currently involved with founding a youth maritime program in St. Augustine. The necessary methods and procedures involved in sailing can help a youngster learn elements of discipline and facts of knowledge at the same time. Many of the functions inherent in sailing require cooperation and attention. But the learning of these functions comes with a little fun too. Your captain, with an eight year old sailing son of his own, knows well the ways of teaching children to obey certain important, perhaps life saving rules, and has the patience and technique necessary to help a child become a young sailor.
